Act 1 Questions

QUESTIONS ON ACT 1:  Answer the following questions on act 1:
1. Why does Shakespeare begin the play with the witches?  To establish an interest with the audience, especially the King who the play was written for as he has an interest in Witchcraft, it is also the foreshadowing of what will happen throughout the play.
2.   How is confusion suggested by 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3?  Confusion is started in these scenes especially through the witches and the dialogue they had and their appearance. Confusion is also suggested when unnatural happenings were occurring.
3. In 1.4, Duncan comments on the difficulty of knowing who is to be trusted.  Who enters at this point, and how is this entry ironic?  Macbeth, this is ironic as it is Macbeth who ends up betraying his trust and killing him, which is quite opposite to what the King thinks of him.
4.   In 1.5.17, what does Lady Macbeth mean by “the milk of human kindness”? Referring to her husbands honour showing a natural loyalty which gives the impression that he wont be able to overcome the evil.

5.   In 1.7.1-28, what principal reasons does Macbeth give for not murdering Duncan? 
“As i am his kinsman and his subject” He is loyal to King Duncan
“As his host, who should against his murderer shit the door, not bear the knife myself” This is showing that Macbeth welcomed him into his home to offer protection.

6.   In 1.7, the Inciting Moment occurs.  What is it? When Lady Macbeth convinced Macbeth showing her power of manipulation.

Macbeth Initial Response – Act 1 Scene 5

Lady Macbeth didn’t progress as a character throughout Act 1 Scene 5. She started off being portrayed as a fairly ruthless character and remained that at the end when she started to agree with the killing of the king. At the start of the scene, Lady Macbeth reads the letter which provides a lot of detail into who’s he is as a character. At the start of the letter, she showed doubts that she didn’t think her husband would be fit to be king due to the unnatural reasons. “Art not without ambition; but without the illness should attend it.” This quote was showing that she has the ambition but if she receives the illness then it could go bad known by the word ‘illness’. “That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan.” This showed how sinister Lady Macbeth is with her intentions that this would be the last time that Duncan would go in as he would be killed. Later in the letter,” Hie thee hither, That I may pour my spirits in thine ear; And chastise with the valor of my tongue. All that impedes thee from the golden round.” This quote was showing that she was saying, “quickly come here,” so that she could pour the spirits through the ear to try and prevent Macbeth from not becoming king and receiving the ‘golden round’, which is the crown.

About Me

My name is Ryan Le Poidevin and as you can tell i have a french last name but I’m not french. I have already posted information about me for the business studies class but heres some more info. I was born here in New Zealand and have only ventured once out the country to Melbourne. My life is all about being outdoors and playing sports as it is one of my biggest passions. My favourite cricket player in the world is Kane Williamson and i try to bat the way he does by using better technique rather than bashing it. I have a family of 4 with my Mum and and Dad with my older sister Aimee.

I didn’t overly like the way i was taught economics last year by my teacher as he talked to much and would always check up on how you are doing. I prefer to just put my head down and do the work by myself or in a small group of people and i am more of a hands on student and i like to do my work by myself.

In the holidays i went to a cricket game at a packed out MCG and got to see India take on Australia. I was a massive indian supporter that night and i was chuffed that they came out with the win!

Accounting Reflection

Overall i was very pleased with my results throughout last year apart from 1. I received an excellence grade in all my Internals which i am very proud of and also excellence in my Financial Statements External. I believe i could have done better on the Conceptual Basis external as i only received a merit grade for this where as i got an excellence in the school exam.

My main way to improve the results that i received is to look over my exam paper and see where i lost the marks, a possible reason for the downfall in this result is i probably just wasn’t thinking as clearly as i should have been. 😦

I passed Level 1 Accounting with an excellence endorsement and i am definitely looking to achieve Level 2 Accounting with it also and i know that i have the capabilities to do so if i work hard which i know i will do.

Another goal for this year is to ensure that I maintain my excellences in the 2 internals that we have during the year and to also get the excellence grades in the end of year externals or at least get a grade that i am satisfied with because i know i completed the exam to the best of my ability.

Background Info About Me:

Hi, my name is Ryan and i am 16 years old. I live in Orewa and have done for all my life. I am half kiwi and half channel islander as my father is from Guernsey. I really want to visit Guernsey to meet family that i have never met before and to experience the place that my dad was brought up in.

My favourite thing to do is to play cricket for the school and i play for the First XI cricket team. Through the holidays i also got the chance to play for the Senior A’s at Hibiscus Coast Cricket Club.

When learning, i prefer to teach myself more than listening for most of the period. I really dislike speaking in front of a class and i would rather keep to myself as i learn better that way.

In the holidays i went to Melbourne for a holiday. On this trip i went to the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and paid for a full tour of the venue. While there i got to see the Australian mens team practicing and i got the chance to tough the grass of the playing field. At any other time, if you touch the grass then it is a instant $9100 fine so i was privileged to be allowed to do it which is the photo i have attached…
